Dry needling is a technique where a single-use needle is inserted into the muscle to decrease the pain and enhance function through the release of knots or myofascial trigger point.
What is a Myofascial trigger point?
It is nothing but a knot in the group of muscle fibers that have shortened but has not been lengthened back in a relaxed state after use. In this condition muscle fibers become tight and they compress the nerves and capillaries that supply them. And so, the muscle is unable to have a normal motion or move.
What causes Myofascial trigger points?
- Injury
- Unexpected movement
- Quick movements
- Change in regular activity or muscle loading
- Sustained postures
- Nerve Impingement
- Stress
- Illness
- Nutritional deficiencies
- Endocrine and metabolic conditions
How Dry needling helps?
Dry needling helps to:
- Release myofascial trigger points
- Assist with pain management
- Restore natural movements
